VLADISLAV
BOGICEVIC Midfielder There is no one in the world quite like Vladislav "Bogie" Bogicevic and the nicknames his teammates had given him--the Maestro, King, etc. fit perfectly. For years Bogicevic orchestrated the most affected and exciting attack in the North American Soccer League. "Bogie" was one of the most skillful players in the NASL and was in total command of the midfield constantly looking, probing and directing teammates. "Bogie" had the rare ability to both control and totally dictate the pace of the game through his skill and vision. His passes seemed to have eyes. The short ones split defenders, the long ones found open feet and the blind ones created space. "He can unbuttoned your shirt with that left foot," said former Tampa Bay Rowdie coach, Gordon Jago after one of Bogicevic's dazzling efforts. "Bogie" was a five-time NASL All-Star and is the all-time assist leader with 105. "Bogie" was recognized by his peers as "the NASL Midfielder of the Year" in 1982. A native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia Bogicevic gained fame in Europe playing for Red Star of Belgrade and led his team to five league championships. He had also appeared 47 times for the Yugoslavian National Team including six games in the 1974 World Cup. |
