NEW YORK (March 9, 2015) – The New York Cosmos announced today that the team has signed goalkeeper Brian Holt. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Joining the Cosmos is an excellent opportunity for me,” said Holt. “I’ve been fortunate to travel with the team to Hong Kong and California and experienced how this team works and trains. I’m looking forward to helping the club in any way I can.”

Holt, 26, was part of the Cosmos’ travel roster for a preseason appearance in the Lunar New Year Cup and for two fixtures in California. He started and kept a clean sheet in New York’s 1-0 win over Ventura County Fusion on February 25, then came on for starting goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer in the second half against Sacramento Republic FC on February 28.

“Brian has displayed both a positive attitude in training and good athleticism,” said Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese. “He has good chemistry with the squad and adds depth to the goalkeeping spot.”

A four-year starter at Creighton University, Holt set an NCAA record with a .208 goals against average as a senior in 2011 while leading the NCAA with 19 shutouts and a 92.3 save percentage.

In 2014 he was a reserve goalkeeper with Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union. He has also competed for two Union developmental affiliates: the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL and Reading United of USL PDL. In 2012 Holt helped Harrisburg reach quarterfinal play in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
