Club Announces Technical Staff for Cosmos B

Led by head coach Alecko Eskandarian, Cosmos B begins play this Saturday in Coney Island, Brooklyn against the Brooklyn Italians.

The New York Cosmos announced today the technical staff of New York Cosmos B, the club’s reserve team set to debut in the National Premier Soccer League this Saturday, May 2. Head Coach Alecko Eskandarian will be joined by Assistant Coach John Fitzgerald, Goalkeeper Coach Steven Diaz, Team Administrator Brian Walsh and Fitness Coach Luis Gutierrez.

“It’s been a privilege preparing this team so far, and I’m thrilled to work with such a talented staff,” said Eskandarian. “We’ve put a lot of work into Cosmos B and we’re excited to put it on display this Saturday in Brooklyn.”

In addition to serving as assistant coach of Cosmos B, John Fitzgerald is the Director of the New York Cosmos Training and Development Program (TDP). With over 28 years of coaching experience at the youth and professional levels, Fitzgerald is an integral member of the Long Island soccer coaching community. He has been head coach of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Coaching Academy and the Long Island Rough Riders women’s soccer team.

Steven Diaz is a 28-year-old Briarcliff College graduate from Cambria Heights, N.Y. who signed as a reserve goalkeeper with the Cosmos first team in 2014. He has appeared in matches for the Brooklyn Knights, FC New York and Ocala Stampede.

Brian Walsh is the Operations Manager for Cosmos TDP and former Director of Men’s Soccer Operations for St. John’s University. He has also worked as Director of Coaching for Rivertowns United Soccer Club.

Luis Gutierrez is a strength and conditioning coach with professional playing experience in Spain and a UEFA B coaching license.

“I believe Cosmos B will serve as an excellent means to help develop young soccer players,” Eskandarian said. “Everyone on our technical staff is well-suited to help this team accomplish that.”

The reserve side’s opening fixture against the Brooklyn Italians follows the first team’s match against Ottawa Fury at MCU Park this Saturday. Fans who buy tickets to Cosmos vs. Fury FC will enjoy two matches for the price of one.
