New York Cosmos goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer was named North American Soccer League Player of the Month by the media on Friday, making him the first recipient of the award this season.

The 26-year-old Lawrenceville, Ga. native earned recognition from the league for the month of April by allowing a single goal through New York's first four Spring Season matches. Maurer has an early lead on taking home the 2015 NASL Golden Gloves Award, given to the goalkeeper who lets in the fewest goals per game over the course of the season. He narrowly missed out on that trophy in 2014.

“We have a lot of great players in this league, so this is very exciting for both me and the team,” Maurer said. “It’s a great honor, but I’m staying focused because we still have a long year ahead of us.”
