It's been a week to remember for Cosmos captain Carlos Mendes. Just three days after becoming a father, the dependable center back posted his second career two-goal outing for New York.

The first goal came after a Lucky Mkosana header was deflected around the penalty area. Mendes positioned himself well, got a foot on the ball and drove it past Eddies goalkeeper Matt VanOekel.

In the 36th minute Mendes put himself at the end of a threatening ball sent into the area by Ayoze, rose up and headed home his second score.

The media voted Mendes Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match for his performance. It is his first time receiving the award this season.

Members of the media will cast their votes to determine the Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match at every Cosmos home game. At each home match, the winner will receive an Emirates Airbus A380 model airplane with an engraved plaque recognizing the player’s achievement.

The Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match award will culminate in a season-ending Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award. The recipient of the Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award will receive two round trip tickets on Emirates from New York (JFK) to Dubai (DXB) to celebrate a triumphant season.
