Venue: Brown University Berylson Family Fields

New York Cosmos B continued their successful road trip against the Rhode Island Reds at Brown University Saturday night, surging past the home side 5-0 with a four-goal second half. U.S. U-17 international striker Haji Wright was electric for Cosmos B (7-1-0) against the Reds (3-0-6) in the final 45, netting a hat trick and chipping in an assist to put the game out of reach.

The contest started brightly for the Cosmos, as midfielder Ruben Bover received a brilliant through ball from forward Miguel Herlein. Bover’s resulting chip forced a fine save from the Reds goalkeeper in the fourth minute.

Herlein converted in the 15th minute for Cosmos B. Bover played a well-timed ball to forward Brian Cunningham, whose shot was saved. However, the rebound was tapped in by Herlein, and the Cosmos took an early 1-0 lead.

In the 19th minute New York threatened again through the skill of Wright and Bover. The striker found Bover at the top of the box, who ripped a strong shot that was parried away for a corner kick. The Spanish midfielder was Cosmos B's standout performer in the first half, controlling the left side of the field.

In the 26th minute the Cosmos continued to press forward, with Bover finding Cunningham for another shot on target. New York’s attack kept the Rhode Island defense busy in the first period. The Cosmos entered halftime with a 1-0 lead.

New York made several changes in the second half. In the 59th minute Cunningham came off for University of South Florida product Isaiah Melville-Ferguson and in the 68th minute, both Bover and Carl-Oscar Andersson came off, replaced by Travis Pittman and Cristhian Hernandez.

New York doubled its lead in the 71st minute. Pittman found the back of the net from 20 yards out. Wright picked up the assist, and the Cosmos earned their insurance goal.

That goal sparked the offensive onslaught for the visiting side. Minutes later Wright caught fire. The 17-year-old Californian got on the scoresheet three straight times in the span of just over 11 minutes. Hernandez and Julian Stahler tallied assists to their tall target forward in the 74th and 82nd minutes.

The 77th minute saw the Cosmos make two more changes, replacing goalkeeper Kyle Zobeck with Barbadian international Keasel Broome, and Herlein with Stahler.

When the full time whistle blew New York had completed an emphatic 5-0 victory over Rhode Island, with Wright scoring three, Herlein adding one and Pittman scoring the other. Bover and Hernandez helped direct the Cosmos B attack from the midfield, and the defense was able to keep a clean sheet.

Head coach Alecko Eskandarian’s squad remains undefeated (7-1-0) in its inaugural season, sitting atop the National Premier Soccer League's North Atlantic Conference.

Cosmos B's final road fixture in a five-game trip will be against the Brooklyn Italians at John Dewey High School on Thursday, July 2 at 6 p.m. ET in Brooklyn. After that the reserve side returns home for a doubleheader with the first team at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium on July 5.
