New York Cosmos B midfielder Ruben Bover has been called up to the first team.

“Ruben is a talented young player who’s been a standout for Cosmos B this season,” said Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese. “The pipeline from the reserves to the first team is something we envisioned when we created Cosmos B and Ruben’s performance has warranted this move.”

Bover, 23, came to the club in April as one of Cosmos B’s first player signings. The Spaniard scored five goals and added five assists for Cosmos B in the reserve side’s inaugural season, helping the team win a NPSL division title. He picked up two Man of the Match awards, All-NPSL First Team honors and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player at the end of the regular season.

“I’ve learned a lot of things from my training and time with Cosmos B and I’m excited at the opportunity now to make a contribution to the first team,” said Bover.

Before joining the Cosmos, Bover spent nearly three seasons with the New York Red Bulls. In 2014 he made 15 appearances and two starts for the Red Bulls, scoring his first Major League Soccer goal on October 11 against Toronto FC.

Born and raised in Mallorca, Bover came through his hometown club’s academy before signing with English side Kiddermeister Harriers in 2009. He moved to Charlton Athletic of England’s second division in 2011 and was loaned to San Roque de Lepe in Andalusia, Spain, where he made 10 appearances and scored one goal.
