NEW YORK (December 16, 2015) – The New York Cosmos announced today that the club will play a preseason fixture in California against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, February 27. The game will be played at Avaya Stadium with kickoff at 7 p.m. PST.

“We are expecting another busy preseason, which will be great preparation for defending our NASL championship,” said New York Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese.

“Not only will the Earthquakes be a great test for us as we return from the offseason, but we are also looking forward to playing in Avaya Stadium, known for one of the best atmospheres in the country,” he added.

The San Jose Earthquakes play in Major League Soccer (MLS). They have won two MLS Cup titles, in 2001 and 2003, and two Supporters' Shields in 2005 and 2012. The Cosmos played the San Jose/Golden Bay Earthquakes 13 times in the NASL from 1974-84, winning eight matches and losing five. Their last encounter came against the Golden Bay Earthquakes on Sept. 12, 1984 at Giants Stadium.

"The New York Cosmos have a great history and we first played them in the 1970s. We look forward to welcoming them back to San Jose ahead of the 2016 season,” said San Jose Earthquakes President, Dave Kaval.

Tickets go on sale here at 12 p.m. ET on Thursday, Dec. 17. The Cosmos will announce further preseason fixtures in the coming weeks as the 2015 champions prepare for the 2016 North American Soccer League season, which begins in April.
