Juan Arango, known for his powerful left foot, took a different tact to help his side start its 2016 NASL season on the right one. The Cosmos attacking midfielder made a resounding club debut against Ottawa Fury FC with back-to-back right-footed goals in the 36^th and 38^th minutes of the match, propelling New York to a 2-0 lead in its season opener on April 3 at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium.

First the Venezuelan made a run into the heart of the Ottawa box while forward Jairo Arrieta lured out Fury goalkeeper Romuald Peiser. Once Peiser had committed, Arrieta slung a centering pass from the right wing that found Arango's right boot. He fired low into the empty net to open the scoring.

Arango's second goal came from nearly the same position on the field. Sebastián Guenzatti forced Peiser into action with a ball in from the right side. The French goalkeeper parried the danger away, but only temporarily, as Arango positioned himself perfectly to tap in the rebound.

The Cosmos added a third goal through Adam Moffat in the second half, cruising to a 3-0 win. Arango was recognized by members of the media as Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match, receiving his award on the field after the final whistle.

Members of the media will cast their votes to determine the Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match at every Cosmos home game. At each home match, the winner will receive an Emirates Airbus A380 model airplane with an engraved plaque recognizing the player’s achievement.

The Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match award will culminate in a season-ending Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award. The recipient of the Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award will receive two round trip tickets on Emirates from New York (JFK) to Dubai (DXB) to celebrate a triumphant season.
