New York Cosmos B began its National Premier Soccer League title defense with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Boston City FC Sunday night at Malden Catholic High School in Malden, Mass.

Down a goal at halftime, Cosmos B head coach Fernando Barboto rallied his side to a three-score second half, securing the victory in his coaching debut and maintaining the reserve side’s impressive unbeaten streak. Cosmos B has not lost a league match in its brief history, which dates back to a triumph over the Brooklyn Italians on May 2, 2015 in the inaugural match at Coney Island’s MCU Park.

Boston City FC’s Yaw Addow put the hosts ahead in the 33rd minute, but the Ghanaian striker saw his second yellow card of the game shortly thereafter, reducing City to confront an increasingly potent Cosmos B attack with only 10 men.

Cosmos B piled on pressure throughout the second half. Ivan Berterame and Kyle McTurk combined in the 63rd minute for a quality look at goal, with McTurk providing the cross into the 18-yard box, but Berterame’s shot breezed over the crossbar.

The visitors would equalize and take the lead through a pair of scores in the 64th and 75th minutes. First a powerful effort from Gaston Sanchez deflected around the penalty area and snuck past Boston goalkeeper Neneca to level the match at one goal apiece. Eleven minutes later a probing free kick from Sanchez forced a misguided clearance from the City defense, prompting another own goal.

In the 84th minute Cosmos B substitute Miguel Palafox put the game away, rising high to head home off a corner kick.

Next up for Cosmos B is another road fixture. The Seacoast United Phantoms beckon this Sunday, May 8 at Amesbury Sports Park in Amesbury, Mass. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
