New York Cosmos B made the short trip to the LIU Brooklyn Athletic Complex Sunday night and scored a 3-2 victory over the Brooklyn Italians. The Cosmos reserve squad (8-1-2, 25 points) bounced back after falling to Boston City FC at home this past Wednesday, June 8.

Cosmos B got off to a great early start, taking the lead in the third minute when Daniel Bedoya hit a free kick from just outside the box, over the wall and into the back of the net. As the Brooklyn Italians were slowly finding their way back into the match, Cosmos B midfielder Michael Holzer was cautioned in the 25th minute for a dangerous tackle inside the center circle.

Roughly ten minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead as Trey Williams finished off a lovely give-and-go exchange with Franklin Castellanos. The Brooklyn Italians found themselves on the scoreboard shortly after in the 41st minute when Rasmus Hansen scored off a shot from inside the penalty box. However, Cosmos B restored their two-goal advantage just two minutes later as Ivan Berterame scored on a header for his fourth goal of the season.

The hosts got the second half underway, which started with a slower pace than the eventful first 45 minutes. The first bit of action came 15 minutes after the restart when Jesus Alvarez found Berterame, whose shot cannoned off the post.

The Brooklyn Italians were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute for a dead ball foul. Cosmos B Head Coach Fernando Barboto then made three substitutions between the 75th and 79th minute with Shaun Russell, Per Erik Forgaard and Andrea Rubin replacing Trey Williams, Ivan Berterame and Michael Holzer, respectively. In the midst of those subs, goalkeeper Michael Bernardi kept Brooklyn in the match with a fantastic double save.

The Italians went on to score a late goal in the 90th minute, which gave their fans some last gasp hopes at earning a point. Even though a stoppage time penalty was missed after Alejandro Mitrano was brought down in the box, Cosmos B was able to hold on for the win.

New York Cosmos B maintain first place in the NPSL Northeast Atlantic Conference. Their next match will be on the road against expansion side Kingston Stockade FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 18.
