THE STAKES

With all nine points collected from their first three NASL Fall Season matches, the New York Cosmos occupy the top spot in the league’s Fall Season and Combined Season Standings. The Cosmos are out to stake their claim at regular season supremacy after narrowly finishing second to Indy Eleven in the Spring Season title race.

Rayo OKC, meanwhile, will be in search of just their second home win this year. The team has proven itself on the road in its debut season, posting an impressive 3-2-1 (W-D-L) record, but is only 1-3-3 in Oklahoma. Down two goals to Puerto Rico FC on Wednesday night, it took a furious late comeback for Rayo to earn a point at home.

New York and Rayo OKC are two of four teams without a loss in the Fall Season. The Cosmos will be playing their third match in eight days; it’ll be the third in a week for Rayo.

MATCHUP HISTORY

Rayo OKC will host the Cosmos for the first time on Saturday night. The expansion side visited Shuart Stadium during the Spring Season back on May 28, when Danny Szetela’s second-half goal sealed a 1-0 win for New York.

NOTES

Rockets: With his goal Wednesday night against Armada FC, Cosmos defensive midfielder Adam Moffat became the unlikely co-leader in team goals this season, tying Juan Arango at four. Two of Moffat’s strikes have come from outside the box. He is converting an impressive 44.4 percent of his shot attempts.

Summer heat: July is the busiest month of the season for New York, but so far it’s also been one of the most successful. After Saturday’s match against Rayo, the Cosmos visit Tampa Bay (July 23) and Edmonton (July 27) before returning to Shuart Stadium on July 30 to host Puerto Rico FC.
