THE STAKES

Despite a 3-0 Cosmos loss to Rayo OKC last Saturday, New York still sits atop the Fall Season Standings with nine points and a 3-0-1 (W-D-L) record. The Rowdies have had a slower start to the second half of the NASL Season, with four points and a 1-1-1 record.

The Cosmos can gain a berth in the postseason by winning the Fall Season outright or by having one of the two best combined Spring and Fall Season records.

MATCHUP HISTORY

The Cosmos earned three points with a 2-1 win at home on May 22 the last time the club faced the Rowdies. Yasmani Duk and Rubén Bover provided the goals for New York, while Tom Heinemann slipped one past Jimmy Maurer to put the Rowdies on the scoreboard. Through three matches against Tampa Bay in 2015, New York picked up two wins.

NOTES

Straight fire: Cosmos midfielder Andrés Flores claimed a spot on the NASL’s Team of the Week for Week 3 of the Fall Season after scoring a goal and adding an assist in a 3-0 win over Jacksonville Armada FC. In that game, David Diosa also scored his first goal of the season, while Lucky Mkosana added an assist. The trio has combined for five goals and four assists in the past four games.

Three in eight (again): For the second time this month, the Cosmos are set to embark on a stretch of three matches in eight days. After facing the Rowdies on Saturday night, the Cosmos have a midweek road date in Edmonton before returning to Shuart Stadium to host Puerto Rico FC on July 30.

League leaders: Cosmos midfielder Juan Arango leads the NASL with 34 shots. Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer is tied for the NASL lead with six clean sheets, while defenders Ayoze and Carlos Mendes have the most pass attempts with 724 and 717, respectively.
