THE STAKES

After an action-packed, comeback win over Tampa Bay, the New York Cosmos will make their first trip to Puerto Rico to face off against the expansion side on Saturday night.

Scottish midfielder Adam Moffat has been on fire for the Cosmos lately, scoring three goals in the last two matches while also earning back-to-back Emirates Man of the Match awards. But a red card for Moffat against the Rowdies forces him out of this game, opening the door for Danny Szetela and Ruben Bover to step up in the central midfield.

As they continue to fight for a spot in The Championship, the Cosmos remain third in both the NASL Fall Season Standings and Combined Season Standings, two points off Indy Eleven’s league-leading pace.

MATCHUP HISTORY

This will be only the second meeting between the two clubs, as the Cosmos prevailed 3-0 when Puerto Rico FC came to New York on July 30.

The Cosmos will play at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium on Saturday night for the first time in the NASL Modern Era. They visited the same venue over 40 years ago for a friendly against the Puerto Rican national team, prevailing 12-1 in the fall of 1975.

NOTES

Young Guns: Saturday’s matchup features two of the youngest clubs in the league. Puerto Rico FC’s average player age is the lowest in the league at 24.7 years, while the Cosmos sit at a perfect average of 27 years.

Loaded Schedule: The Cosmos’ trip to Puerto Rico will kick off a four-game stretch in a span of two weeks. After PRFC, the Cosmos will face the Carolina RailHawks, Indy Eleven and Fort Lauderdale Strikers within 14 days.

Leader at the Back: Captain Carlos Mendes leads the club with 67 clearances and 46 interceptions. The defender has also attempted 861 passes, second most on the team behind back line partner Ayoze.
