THE STAKES

They’ve clinched a spot in The Championship, the NASL’s four-team postseason tournament, but the Cosmos still have a lot to play for. The Fall Season Champion gets to host at least one postseason match, and the top overall seed has home field advantage throughout The Championship. As it stands, New York has an eight-point lead over Edmonton in the Combined Season Standings with four games to go.

MATCHUP HISTORY

The Cosmos opened both the Spring Season and Fall Season hosting Ottawa. They collected three points in each instance, prevailing 3-0 on April 3 and 2-1 on July 2.

New York is 7-1-1 (W-D-L) against the Fury all time.

NOTES

Always in the Hunt: For the fourth straight year the Cosmos have clinched a spot in the NASL postseason. Since the reboot campaign of 2013, New York has a postseason record of 3-0-1 that includes two championships.

No. 50 for Gio: With a win on Sunday, Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese would become just the third coach of the NASL Modern Era to notch 50 regular season victories. Colin Clarke (65 wins) and Manny Lagos (55) have reached the milestone. Savarese is 49-26-19 as the Cosmos boss in the regular season.

Final Four: Sunday’s showdown with Ottawa is one of New York’s four remaining regular season matches. Three of the four are away from Shuart Stadium.

Goals on Goals: The Cosmos are the league leaders in goals scored (49), while Fury FC has let in the fourth-most goals of any NASL side (34).
