COSMOS B DRAWS BOSTON CITY FC IN SEASON OPENER

Published Apr 30, 2017

The New York Cosmos B travelled to face Boston City FC in their season-opening match of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) on Saturday night at Brother Gilbert Stadium. A hard-fought game provided plenty of action between the two clubs.

Nana Addai put the home team ahead in the 12th minute with a shot inside the box to give his side the lead. The midfielder was named last season’s NPSL Golden Boot and Golden Ball winner and showed his scoring ability once again.

The Cosmos B responded in the 19th minute, as Lucas Coutinho provided an excellent through ball to Christian Thierjung, who chipped it over Boston City FC's goalkeeper, Victor Scariot, to level the match and earn the Cosmos its first goal of the 2017 season.

Coutinho continued to show fancy footwork as he pushed his way through Boston FC's final third, threatening the Lions defense. The first half finished in a deadlock, despite further opportunities by the two sides.

Second half play provided more chances by the Cosmos offense as Jesús Alvarez and Matías Ruiz both fired shots forcing Scariot to make big saves. Boston City’s Paulo Henrique and Homero Morais both hit the woodwork, but the two clubs had to settle for one point on the night as the match ended 1-1.

The Cosmos B return to action on May 13th when they host Elm City Express at 1:00 PM in New York at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.
