Three New York Cosmos players have played every minute so far during the 2017 NASL Spring Season. Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer, along with midfielders Danny Szetela and Juan Guerra, have shown great strength and leadership on the field throughout the five opening weeks.

Guerra has been a key player for the New York Cosmos since joining the club this season and has performed brilliantly week after week. The Venezuelan midfielder is happy to have played every minute this season, and sees growth within the team.

“It has been very important to me to play every game as the team continues to improve each week on the field,” said Guerra. “I came here to try and give my very best and hope we continue to grab positive results.”

The 30 year-old midfielder attributes much of his current form to Head Coach and Sporting Director, Giovanni Savarese. He spoke about the manner in which Savarese motivates the players, which makes the team raise their level and perform at their best.

“Gio is great. I’m not going to lie, I can easily say he’s the best coach I have ever played for. Gio's knowledge makes each player feel they are an important asset to the team.”

Guerra leads the team with 227 total passes, playing a pivotal role in the center of the pitch. He has a passing accuracy of 80%, reaching his teammates in every direction. He has noticed a huge improvement in both, himself and his teammates since the start of the season when they drew 0-0 on the road against Puerto Rico FC and looks forward to their upcoming match against them on Saturday.

“We are a different team today then when we played against Puerto Rico FC in the Season Opener, and while they have improved as well, we will go after the game and hope to have a good night on Saturday.”

The reigning champions’ have won the last two NASL titles, and Guerra looks to bring more trophies to the club. He knows the significance of wearing the Cosmos uniform and what the colors represent.

“When you play for the New York Cosmos you have to win it all. We are the most important soccer team in North America and every time we step onto the field we must perform at the highest level,” said Guerra. “Our ultimate goal is to win the championship, and we are focused game after game.”

The Cosmos legacy has been felt around the world and the team continues to expand its reach overseas. The team announced this week two exhibition matches for the summer, the first in Saudi Arabia against Al-Hilal FC, on May 20th and the second against Valencia in Canada on July 22nd.

“History is made every time the Cosmos travel and I want to be part of the history of this beautiful club and look forward to playing in Saudi Arabia against Al-Hilal FC and Spanish side Valencia in Canada.”

The Cosmos kick off on Saturday at 7:00 p.m at MCU Park as they host Puerto Rico FC. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, click here.
