Cosmos B and Elm City Express Play to 0-0 Tie

Published Jul 1, 2017

Coming off of a 5-0 win last week against Greater Lowell FC, the New York Cosmos B had the upper hand going into today's match against Elm City Express, being well rested and having the momentum to continue their winning streak.

The Cosmos B hit the road and met their opponents at Yale University – Reese Stadium. As the teams ran onto the field, both of them looked composed, yet eager to play the beautiful game and outskill their opponents.

The Cosmos B unloaded a frenzy of excellent passing and attacking drives. Bledi Bardic unleashed a shot off of a cross from Mohammed Rashid in the 13th minute that hit the post, almost giving his team the lead. The game was pretty low pace throughout the first half, with not many attacking opportunities. The best chance of the half came in the 36th minute, when José Nájera crossed a beautiful ball to Bardic, who one-timed a shot on goal, only to be saved by the keeper. The Cosmos B looked strong towards the end of the half, but the game remained scoreless.

The Cosmos B came out stronger and motivated in the next 45. Nearing the 50th minute, Elm City had a good attacking opportunity, but the Cosmos B defense shut it down and started a counter attack. In the 60th minute, Christian Thierjung opened up some space and ripped a shot just over the crossbar. It was a great chance to get the lead, but the Cosmos B did not finish. Elm City countered in the 65th minute, heading a challenging ball towards the net that Zobeck deflected out of danger, returning possession to his team.

Play went back and forth, with neither team making use of their chances. Both teams looked fatigued in the final stretch of the game. The final score was 0-0, as the Cosmos B looked good during the match, but just couldn't finish.
