The New York Cosmos will travel to Regina, Saskatchewan to take on La Liga giants, Valencia CF, on Saturday, July 22. The game will be the first international soccer exhibition match to be played at the 33,000 capacity New Mosaic Stadium.

After closing out the 2017 NASL Spring Season with a 1-0 road win over FC Edmonton, the Cosmos look to maintain their form before the start of the Fall Season on July 29. The mid-season break allows New York to test its skills against the 30th ranked team in UEFA.

Valencia is currently in the midst of preseason preparations for the 2017-18 La Liga season, which kicks off in August. Los Murciélagos (The Bats) finished 12th last season, but netted in as many goals as fifth-placed Villarreal (56). The club boasts 17 domestic titles as well as seven European trophies, including three UEFA Cup (Europa League) trophies and two UEFA Super Cups.

Among Valencia's key players are left winger, Santi Mina, and center forward, Simone Zaza. The duo were joint top scorers for the club last season, netting in six goals apiece in league play. Mina provided two assists, producing 26 shots. Zaza, who had one assist, tallied 50 shots. Both players logged over 1,000 minutes for Valencia last season.

The current Cosmos roster has a strong Spanish connection in midfielder, Javi Márquez and defender, Ayoze. Both players plied their trade in Spain before joining the Cosmos.

A product of RCD Espanyol's youth system, Márquez won the Liga de Tercera División with the club in 2009, becoming the B team's top scorer in the process. The midfielder also won a Catalunya Cup with the senior team.

Cosmos defender, Ayoze, made 162 appearances with Tenerife in Spain's second division, helping the team achieve promotion to La Liga in the 2008-09 season.

Both players have been instrumental to New York's third place finish in the 2017 Spring Season, logging over 900 minutes each. Márquez, who tallies two goals and two assists this year, leads the team in shots with 27. Ayoze scored three goals, creating 19 chances and delivering 56 crosses, good for second in each category for the Cosmos.

New York last played a Spanish side on May 25, 2016, emerging victorious against SD Eibar in a dramatic penalty shootout. With the score deadlocked at 2-2, the exhibition match went straight to penalties. The Cosmos won the shootout 5-4.

Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the Cosmos and Valencia. It will be New York's third face-off against a Spanish side in the Modern Era and 188th international match, including those played in the US.

Broadcast information for the game will be announced at a later time.
