The New York Cosmos announced today the club has reached an agreement with the Tampa Bay Rowdies to release midfielder, Walter Restrepo.

"We are happy to help Walter transition to a new challenge," said Cosmos Head Coach and Sporting Director, Giovanni Savarese. "We fully support his decision and wish him the best moving forward."

Restrepo originally joined the Cosmos in January 2015, starting 24 out of 29 games in the Regular Season that year. The midfielder recorded three goals and five assists, helping the Cosmos lift the 2015 Soccer Bowl. He joined MLS’ Philadelphia Union the following year.

The San Diego native re-signed with the Cosmos in January 2017. He scored two goals and added as many assists in 13 appearances for New York during the 2017 NASL Spring Season.

Prior to joining the Cosmos, Restrepo played for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and San Antonio Scorpions. He was named to the NASL Best XI in 2012 and 2014.

"Although I had a solid Spring Season with the Cosmos, my family and I decided it was best for us to make a move," said Restrepo. "I thank the entire Cosmos organization for their support and understanding and I look forward to this new chapter in my career with Tampa Bay."

The Cosmos will return to MCU Park to open the 2017 Fall Season against Miami FC on Saturday, July 29 at 7:00 pm. Tickets for this match are on sale now. For more information, click here.
