Ledesma Delights as Cosmos Top Scorer

European experience gives the Argentine playmaker confidence in the NASL

Fresh off a NASL Play of the Week worthy performance against FC Edmonton, Cosmos midfielder, Emmanuel Ledesma, continues to prepare for Saturday's Indy Eleven matchup.

Ledesma, who joined the Cosmos in March 2017, made an instant impact, becoming the club's top scorer in the Spring Season. The Argentine has since earned three NASL Team of the Week honors and three Play of the Week awards, while being named to the Team of the Month for May and July.

International experience has given Ledesma plenty of confidence. Prior to suiting up for the Cosmos, he racked up appearances in England, Italy, Greece, and his native Argentina.

Success didn't come easy for Ledesma. Despite joining Genoa's senior team after spending two years of his youth career at the club, the Argentine midfielder didn't see any playing time at the Italian side. Loan spells at Queens Park Rangers, Salernitana, and Novara were followed by a permanent move to Crotone, where Ledesma made 10 appearances. He then played the same number of games for Walsall in England's third tier. He briefly returned to his boyhood club, Defensa y Justicia, in Argentina, before continuing to play for the English side.

It was at Walsall that Ledesma's career really took off. Coming off the bench in the 55th minute in a face-off against Hartlepool United in March 2011, the midfielder helped change the course of the game in his team's favor. Ledesma assisted the 64th minute equalizer to make the teams level at two goals apiece, before netting in the final goal in second half stoppage time to cap off a 5-2 victory. As time would tell, that memorable match was a sign of things to come.

In March 2012, he scored a first half equalizer in a 3-1 win over Colchester United to help Walsall move out of the Football League One relegation zone. His brace in an April 2012 match against Chesterfield gave the Saddlers a 2-1 victory and brought the team four points clear of the relegation zone with five games remaining. Walsall retained their spot in Football League One at the end of the season.

Ledesma totaled four goals in 10 games for Walsall in the 2011-2012 season. His next stop was Middlesbrough, and it proved to be his longest stint thus far. Three years at Boro yielded nine goals and six assists for the midfielder in 64 appearances across all competitions.

Following loan spells at Rotherham United and Brighton & Hove Albion, Ledesma made a move to Rotherham, making five appearances in the 2015-16 season. The talented midfielder continued to search for his next big challenge, making one appearance for Brentford and nine for Greek side, Panetolikos, before embarking on his conquest of the NASL.

Now one of the Cosmos and NASL's top players, Ledesma continues to delight his fans with one game-changing goal after another.
