Four Cosmos Players Called Up for International Duty

El Salvador will play exhibition match against Canada

With an international schedule set for this weekend, many players around the NASL are preparing to represent their home countries this weekend. For the New York Cosmos, four teammates will turn into foes for an upcoming exhibition match between El Salvador and Canada.

Midfielders Richard Menjivar, Irvin Herrera, and Andrés Flores will represent El Salvador, while defender, Dejan Jaković, will represent Canada.  

Sunday’s match is set to take place at BBCA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.

Jaković, a 32-year-old defender, made his debut for Canada in January 2008 and has played in 39 games for his country. Recently, he played in three games during this past summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup. In Canada’s first Gold Cup game vs. French Guiana on July 7, the defender scored his first national team goal in a 4-2 win.

Flores, 27, assisted on the Cosmos’ only goal of the match in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Puerto Rico FC. He’ll look to lead his country to a similar result. He made his senior team debut as a 17-year-old in 2008. Menjivar, 26, began represent his country at the U-23 level before making his senior team debut in 2013. Herrera, 26, debuted for El Salvador in 2015 and has scored two goals for his team. 

The NY Cosmos will travel to Indianapolis over the weekend to battle Indy Eleven in a rematch of last season’s Championship Final. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm. The Cosmos return to MCU Park for their home finale vs. FC Edmonton on Saturday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, click here.
