New York Cosmos midfielder, Javi Márquez, earned a spot in the NASL Team of the Month for the month of September.

Over five September matches, Márquez scored two goals and added one assist. On September 6 at Miami FC, he assisted on Pablo Vranjicán’s goal in the 81st minute before scoring the equalizer in stoppage time to earn the Cosmos a point in a 3-3 draw. In New York’s next game on September 17 vs. Jacksonville Armada FC, Márquez started the Cosmos’ comeback by scoring in the 79th minute to cut Jacksonville’s lead to 3-1 in a game the Cosmos came back to tie 3-3.

With his strike in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Puerto Rico FC, Márquez now has five goal on the season, putting him in a three-way tie as the Cosmos’ second leading goal scorer.

This is the first NASL Team of the Month selection of the season for the 31-year-old Spaniard, and he is the first New York player to be named to the Team of the Month since Ryan Richter, Eric Calvillo, and Emmanuel Ledesma were honored in July.

Márquez will look to keep his strong play going as the Cosmos play a road match against Indy Eleven on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The Cosmos return home to play FC Edmonton on Saturday, October 14 at 7 p.m. For more information, click here.
