The midfielder has scored in both postseason matches so far

In a players' profile, you can list his age, height and weight and hometown and career stats.

But there is one thing that cannot be mentioned or quantified:

Confidence.

Having that inner belief can make or break a player on a soccer field, especially a forward or an attacking midfielder whose game thrives on scoring or creating goals.

That brings us to Zaire Bartley, a 20-year-old, 5-8 and 150-lb. forward who hails from the Bronx. Bartley is teeming with confidence during the National Premier Soccer League playoffs.

In the Cosmos B's two North Atlantic Conference matches, Bartley arguably has become the most important offensive player, scoring once in each game and converting an important penalty kick in the 5-3 shootout win over the Brooklyn Italians in the final at Commisso Stadium on Saturday night.

"I told him whatever he is eating lately, he needs to keep eating more of it," right back Jonathan Borrajo said. "He was the sparkplug for us last game."

No doubt.

"Now I feel like I'm getting my confidence back," Bartley said. "I'm scoring now. I'm working. So, just keeping it up as long as I can help the team out and show the coaches and everybody what I could do."

After finding the net but once in the regular season, Bartley has put both his feet forward for Cosmos B in the playoffs.

As a second-half substitute on Wednesday night, he tallied the insurance goal in a 4-2 extra time win over the defending champion Elm City Express.

Coming on again in the second half on Saturday, Bartley performed his heroics twice. First, he slotted home a rebound past goalkeeper Michael Bernardi to knot things up at 1-1 in the 75th minute.

"I was in a good spot," he said. "The ball landed to me [after] the 'keeper made a great save and I was first to react to it."

During the shootout, Bartley took Cosmos B's third attempt and chipped Bernardi for a 3-2 lead.

That took a lot of guts, but for Bartley, it came down to -- you guessed it -- confidence.

"I got my confidence back, so I'm confident," he said. Whatever I put my mind to, I can get it done."

In the ffourth round, New York 'keeper Kevin Tenjo stopped Thomas Suchecki's shot and Borrajo drilled home his try to seal the win.

"The Brooklyn Italians gave us a good fight," Bartley said. "They came out strong, but we had a strong mentality and we were good as a team to come out with the victory."

Bartley has been one of several reserve players who have made an impact in the second half and extra time in the past two playoff matches.

"The bench is key to us because we were all tired especially with a man down," he said of midfielder Rafa Garcia's red card in the 77th minute, which forced Cosmos B to play a man down for the remaining 43 minutes. “Everybody could come in. We fight for each other. We helped each other out."

Sunday was a day of rest for Bartley and his teammates as they resumed training Monday for Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. Northeast Region Semifinal clash against FC Frederick at Hofstra Soccer Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. FC Frederick upset favored FC Baltimore in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Final on Saturday night. FC Frederick prevailed in penalties, 4-3, after the teams played to a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes of regulation and extra time.

Preparation for Wednesday's match is just proper training and developing a game plan and players taking care of themselves off the field.

"We just get ready for training and stay focused," Bartley said. "For everybody, recovery is key. Ice baths, massages, take care of the body, eat well, and the rest will handle itself."

After Saturday's confrontation between the rival sides, Cosmos B was awarded the North Atlantic trophy for its accomplishment. The players celebrated, but they want more hardware, such as the NPSL Championship trophy.

"We're going for everything," Bartley said. "We want everything. It's just part of the job. The job is to finish it."
