The New York Cosmos announced today that forward/midfielder Darwin Espinal has re-signed with the club.

Espinal scored seven goals with Cosmos B during the 2018 NPSL campaign, helping the team to the North Atlantic Conference title. He was also named NPSL National Player of the Week after he found the back of the net twice in a 4-0 victory over Boston City FC last April.

“I’m very excited to be back and looking forward to building on last season, individually and as a team,” Espinal said.

Before his arrival in New York last season, Espinal scored twice in 13 appearances for Reno 1868 FC in the USL. The 23-year old made his professional debut in 2015 with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. In two seasons with the Rowdies, he scored four times in 25 appearances.

Espinal has also represented Honduras at youth level, playing in the 2015 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.

“Darwin is a creative player that can also provide goals for us,” Senior Vice President Joe Barone said. “He had a successful NPSL season last year and we’re excited to have him back this season.”

More info on the team and 2019 NPSL Founders Cup will be announced at a later date.
