DEFENDER

Braeden Backus joins the New York Cosmos as a defender with strong local ties and a developmental background rooted in competitive academy systems. A product of the Westchester SC pathway, Backus progressed through structured youth environments that emphasize tactical discipline, technical development, and professional standards from an early age.

His time in competitive academy and pre-professional settings prepared him for the physical and tactical demands of senior soccer. Backus earned recognition for his consistency, positional awareness, and ability to perform in high-pressure matches against top regional opposition.

Primarily deployed as a left back, Backus combines defensive awareness with the stamina and mobility to contribute in wide areas. He is comfortable defending in space, supporting build-up play from the back, and advancing along the flank when opportunities arise. His versatility also allows him to operate higher up the field as a winger on either side, adding width and energy in attacking phases.
