The Birth of the Cosmos 

The genesis of the Cosmos began at the 1970 World Cup Finals in Mexico when North American Soccer League [NASL] Commissioner Phil Woosnam talked his way into a party thrown by Atlantic Records music executives Ahmet and Neshui Ertegün. The fledgling league, launched in 1968, needed a franchise in the New York market. In 1971, the Cosmos were born, adopting the colors of the three-time World Cup champions, Brazil.
