Early Cosmos History

The Cosmos began play in 1971 with players plucked from the New York/New Jersey area’s grassroots leagues. Despite winning the league their second season, the champions remained relative unknowns. Many early Cosmos, such as Rutgers-Newark graduate student and NASL league MVP Randy Horton, played at the Paterson Armory for other clubs in the offseason.
