CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | VILLARREAL CF, 2005-06

Villarreal CF come from a town of just 50,000 inhabitants in Spain, and only made their top division debut in 1998. Senna joined The Yellow Submarine in 2002 and represented them with distinction, playing well over 300 games in his 11 years at El Madrigal. Villarreal made regular appearances in continental competition, most famously reaching the semifinals of the Champions League in 2006. Had it not been for a penalty miss by another great of the game, Juan Román Riquelme, in the home leg against Arsenal, they may have reached the final and faced Barcelona.

GOAL AGAINST BETIS | VILLARREAL CF, 2007-08

Spotting the goalkeeper off his line, Don Balon  magazine's Spanish Player of the Year Senna pulled off an audacious shot from the center circle that sailed into the net away at Real Betis, It was the only goal of the game as Villarreal surged towards second place, breaking up the Real Madrid-Barcelona duopoly and achieving their highest-ever finish.

EURO 2008 | SPANISH NATIONAL TEAM

Spain were not always the team to fear that they are now. Despite the strength of La Liga and a long history of world-class players, La Roja  were the perennial underachievers of world football, never getting their hands on either of the major two prizes available to them, the World Cup and the European Championship. That is, until 2008.

Senna was the fulcrum of Spain's midfield in Austria and Switzerland, alongside the likes of Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, helping to instill the winning habit that would see Spain secure their first World Cup two years later and then retain the Euros. He was named in the Team of the Tournament for his displays in 2008.

SOCCER BOWL 2013 | NEW YORK COSMOS

Senna joined the Cosmos for their reboot season in the NASL, and scored six goals in 14 games as they took the crown, including the winning goal in the Soccer Bowl against Atlanta Silverbacks in November.

VILLARREAL TESTIMONIAL | NEW YORK COSMOS, 2013

Later that same year, Senna was awarded a special testimonial match for his incredible service to Villarreal. The Cosmos provided the opposition, and the Spanish midfielder played one half for each side. The crowd applauded for the full 19th minute, in honor of the number he wore.
