THE STAKES

In the last of three straight home matches, the New York Cosmos will welcome their Floridian rivals to Shuart Stadium on Saturday night. The boys in green are looking to get back to winning ways after coming off a hard-fought draw against Rayo OKC this past Sunday. Meanwhile, the Rowdies recently beat their in-state rivals Fort Lauderdale.

As always with this matchup, the stakes are high. The Cosmos sit third in the Fall Season and Combined Season Standings, continuing to push for a berth in The Championship. Decorated international footballers Juan Arango and Joe Cole each lead their respective clubs with four assists this season.

MATCHUP HISTORY

The Cosmos and Rowdies share one of the most historic rivalries in U.S. soccer. In the NASL Modern Era, the Cosmos lead the series 5-3-2 (W-D-L). This will be the third and final meeting between the two teams in the regular season. New York won the first match at home on May 22 by a score of 2-1, followed by an electrifying 2-2 draw in Florida on July 23.

WORTH A NOTE

Passing Pals: Cosmos defenders Carlos Mendes and Ayoze are the two players who have made the most pass attempts during this NASL Season. The Cosmos captain leads the league with 861 passes, while Ayoze is right behind him with 859. Mendes has completed 90.4 percent of those pass attempts; Ayoze sits on a 79.6 percent completion rate.

Arangol: The Cosmos boast the most proficient attack with a league-leading 30 goals scored in the NASL Season thus far. Venezuelan midfielder Juan Arango leads the team with seven goals and four assists. He has scored five goals from inside the box and two from free kicks.

Hungry and Healthy: Hunter Freeman is the only Cosmos player to have started each of the club’s 18 league games this season. The defender has played a total of 1619 minutes, missing just one minute of action.
