THE STAKES

The first-place Cosmos wrapped up the NASL Fall Season title last Saturday night in Jacksonville by defeating the Armada 4-2 at Community First Park. They are also guaranteed to finish with the best overall record in the league for the second straight year, giving them home field advantage throughout the postseason.

Playing their final regular season home match, the Cosmos can post an unblemished record at Shuart Stadium with a win or draw against Miami FC on Saturday night. New York is 13-2-0 (W-D-L) at home in league play this year. A win or draw would also extend the team’s unbeaten streak at home to 19 matches, setting a new NASL record.

MATCHUP HISTORY

New York defeated Miami in both encounters at Ocean Bank Field earlier this year, most recently getting the better of the expansion club 3-2 on July 9.

NOTES

Nifty 50: Giovanni Savarese picked up his 50th NASL regular season victory against the Armada on Oct. 15. The Cosmos boss is 18-5-7 this season. His side has lost just once in its last 14 contests, and will be two wins away from its second straight league title when The Championship begins on Nov. 5.

Golden Boys in Green: Two Cosmos players – midfielder Juan Arango and left back Ayoze – are finalists for the 2016 NASL Golden Ball, awarded to the league’s most valuable player. In his first year on the team, Arango has set a Modern Era Cosmos record for most goals in a single season (14). Meanwhile, Ayoze leads New York in pass attempts (1356) and crosses (103).

Who’s Next: The Cosmos will host their Championship Semifinal matchup on Nov. 5 at Shuart Stadium, but their opponent is yet to be determined. The race for the fourth and final postseason spot is tightly contested, with six teams separated by four points, including Miami FC. New York faces Minnesota – currently in fourth place – on Oct. 29 at NSC Stadium to close out the regular season.
