The New York Cosmos continue their late season playoff push with a 7:00 pm match against FC Edmonton Saturday, October 14 at MCU Park in Brooklyn. The match is the Cosmos’ second-to-last home game of the season, and the fourth and final meeting between New York and Edmonton.

Over the years, the Cosmos and Eddies have been very evenly matched, with New York posting a 4-6-4 all-time record (W-D-L) against the league’s lone Canadian club, including a 1-1-1 record in 2017.

New York (8-13-7 Combined Standings) is coming off a 2-2 road draw against Indy Eleven last Saturday night. Emmanuel Ledesma and Javi Márquez each scored an equalizer for the Cosmos minutes after an Indy strike, getting New York a crucial road point. New York outshot Indy 21-10 on the night, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on target. Goalkeeper, Jimmy Maurer, made two saves in the tie.

Edmonton (7-4-16 Combined Standings) fell 1-0 at home to the San Francisco Deltas on Sunday afternoon, despite possessing the ball for 54.8 percent of the match. Goalkeeper, Tyson Farago, made two saves on three shots in the loss. Edmonton has lost its last three matches, all at home, while being outscored 4-1. Offense has been a challenge for the Eddies, as their 23 goals on the season are the fewest in the NASL.

The Cosmos enter Saturday’s match tied with Jacksonville Armada FC for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NASL Combined Standings with 37 points. Edmonton currently sits seventh with 25 points.

The two teams last met in a 1-1 draw at Clarke Stadium on August 11. Daryl Fordyce opened the scoring for the home side in the 45th minute before Ledesma equalized in the 66th for New York. Farago made five saves as New York outshot Edmonton 21-12, including 6-3 in shots on target.
