On Wednesday it was announced that defender David Diosa signed with USL side Real Monarchs SLC for the 2018 season.
Diosa, 24, was one of the most veteran members of the New York Cosmos. In 2010, he made history while playing for the Cosmos Academy U18 team. The Colombian scored the first goal for a Cosmos club in 25 years when he opened the scoring in a U.S. Soccer Development Academy match against Connecticut’s South Central Premier.
He went on to sign his first professional contract with the Cosmos in 2013, and remained in New York through the 2017 season.
In 40 NASL matches with the Cosmos over five seasons, Diosa scored four goals and added five assists. His most productive season came in 2016 when he played in 23 games, making 11 starts while scoring three goals and three assists. He also was nominated for the 2016 NASL Goal of the Year.
The defender was limited to just one game in the 2017 season due to a knee injury suffered prior to the Spring Season.
The New York Cosmos thank Diosa for his countless contributions to the club, both on and off the field over his many years in New York, and wish him the best of luck as he continues his career in Salt Lake.
