The New York Cosmos announced today the signing of Isaac Acuña.

Acuña, 29, brings versatility to the Cosmos attack being able to line up in midfield or as a forward.

“He’s a true professional,” Cosmos coach Carlos Mendes said. “He’s got the mentality we’re looking for. He’s a proven goalscorer and he’s a big, strong forward with good feet, so he’ll give us a presence in the box. He’ll help us in a lot of different ways and can hurt the other team.”

Originally from California, Acuña has spent the entirety of his career outside the United States.

He came through the ranks of Club América before suiting up for their first team in 2010. He has also featured for Mexican clubs Querétaro, Mérida, and Celaya, among others.

Acuña has also played professionally in Peru as well as Guatemala, including winning the Liga Nacional Apertura with Comunicaciones in 2018. He recently featured for Club Deportivo Guastatoya, scoring eight league goals this season.

“He’s a big addition, we’re happy to have him," Mendes said. "He's going to improve our team."
