Nassau County Executive Laura Curran visited the New York Cosmos before training in Uniondale, N.Y., Friday morning to wish the team good luck prior to its National Premier Soccer League National Championship against Miami FC on Saturday night.

Curran spoke with Cosmos head coach Carlos Mendes and forward Aaron Dennis, who both reside in Nassau County.

"It was excellent. Very happy to have her," Mendes said. "Seems like a great person. We enjoyed having her in. It seems like she has a passion, cares about the county and about local teams. It was a great opportunity to meet her."

Likewise for Curran.

"It's really exciting," she said. "The fact we have an undefeated team right here on Long Island playing the championship here in Nassau County we're excited about it."

The Cosmos, who host Miami FC at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale on Saturday at 7 p.m., are 16-0-1 this season.

Dennis also had an opportunity to talk to Curran.

"Someone of that stature, it was nice to have that support," he said.

"She told me she was living in Baldwin for the past 20 years. I'm an Elmont guy and we're both Long Island people.

"She was just wishing the team the best of luck.”

The championship game will feature the two top-ranked teams in the NPSL -- the No. 1 Cosmos against No. 2 Miami.

Tickets are $12 for adults (over 14 aand up) and under 14 years old will have free admittance. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate or online through Passage, the preferred ticketing partner of the NPSL, at https://app.soccerstub.com/events/NPSL-national-finals.
