The New York Cosmos announced Friday the signing of Geo Alves and Dominick Falanga for the upcoming 2020 NISA Season. Both signings are subject to USSF and NISA approval.

“We want to focus on young talent that are looking for the opportunity to play at the next level,” said Cosmos Head Coach, Carlos Mendes. “Geo and Dom are players that we feel that can take a step at the next level and be successful. We’re excited to have them at the Cosmos and are looking forward to getting this season underway.”

Geo Alves comes to the Cosmos following a strong career at the University of Vermont, where he registered 10 goals and four assists in his senior season. His college career led the explosive forward to be selected No. 62 overall by D.C. United in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. Alves last featured for Brockton FC United of the UPSL.

It feels really good to be a part of this historical club,” said Alves. “I’m really grateful for this opportunity. I feel very welcomed by the players and coaching staff, and I can’t wait to contribute to the club.”

Mendes added, “We’ve very excited about Geo. From the first day of training when he came in, he’s a very dynamic player. He’s very comfortable on the ball, and he’s good at not only connecting with players but stretching the game. He has that quality in the final third. We liked him a lot from the moment we saw him. He’s got a great attitude – I feel that he’s going to fit very well with the team. He knows what it means to represent this club. I think he’s going to contribute tremendously this season for us.”

Falanga returns to the Cosmos after joining the club for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League Season. The Brooklyn native brings local experience, featuring for local amateur sides FA Euro and Brooklyn Italians before joining the club last season. The defender native additionally featured at the collegiate level for St. Francis, earning First Team All-NEC honors in 2017.

“It’s always a great honor to have another year to represent the historic New York Cosmos,” said Falanga. “I’m very excited being able to go out on the field and represent all the passionate supporters of the club as well as New York. I’m always trying to give it all I can out on the field. The amazing group of guys we have on the team, as well as the great coaching staff makes it all the more exciting to go out there each day and compete.”

“Dom’s a player that is local guy, who has been with us and understands what we expect,” added Mendes. “We’re very happy to have him back. He’s a hard worker, very solid defensively – just an honest, brave player. He competes, so I think he’ll really help us at the back and help us continue to grow.”

The Cosmos are currently in preparations for their participation in the NISA Independent Cup as well as the NISA Fall 2020 season. Both the cup and fall season will be played behind closed doors, and broadcast information will be announced in the coming weeks.
