The New York Cosmos announced today the signing of Armando Guarnera and Gianfranco Barone for the 2020 NISA Season. Both signings are subject to USSF and NISA approval.

Guarnera, 22, returns to the club for his fourth season after first joining New York Cosmos B in 2017. A strong presence in central defense, Guarnera previously spent time in the youth systems of Avellino in Italy and Chesterfield FC in England.

“It feels so good to be back for my fourth season,” said Guarnera. “It’s always a great feeling to be a part of such a great group of players and coaches. I’m ready to get to work, and excited for this weekend’s home opener.”

Barone, 22, comes to the Cosmos after a stint with the Milwaukee Torrent in the National Premier Soccer League. The Howard Beach, New York native is also a recent alumnus of Stony Brook University – and brother to current Cosmos midfielder, Giuseppe Barone.

“I’m very happy to have signed for the New York Cosmos,” said Barone. “I’m grateful to the staff for giving me this opportunity to represent my hometown club. I’m ready to give my best for the club and the fans, and I’m hoping to help us bring home some silverware.”

The Cosmos recently returned from a road trip in Virginia for the 2020 NISA Independent Cup and will open up their NISA Fall Season this upcoming Saturday against Michigan Stars at 7:00 pm. The match can be streamed for free on MyCujoo.
