The Cosmos battled back from an early two-goal deficit and took the lead in the second half before ultimately earning a 3-3 draw against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Saturday night.
Chattanooga made an immediate impact, opening the scoring inside the first minute through Pedro Hernandez. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute when Oluwatobilba Adewole found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Despite the early deficit, the Cosmos controlled much of the possession and continued to push forward. Their pressure was rewarded just before halftime. In the second minute of stoppage time, Sebastián Guenzatti scored to cut Chattanooga’s advantage in half and send the Cosmos into the break trailing 2-1.
The Cosmos carried that momentum into the second half. Davide Galazzini replaced Massimo Morabito at the break, and New York continued to press for an equalizer. In the 56th minute, Néstor Cabrera delivered it, finding the back of the net to bring the match level at 2-2.
Chattanooga responded four minutes later. Yanis Lelin scored in the 60th minute to restore the Red Wolves’ advantage at 3-2.
The Cosmos continued to apply pressure, finishing the night with 64 percent possession, 26 total shots, seven shots on goal and eight corner kicks. With the visitors searching for another equalizer, Ajmeer Spengler delivered in the 77th minute, scoring to bring the Cosmos level for the second time on the night at 3-3.
New York continued to push for a winner in the closing stages, with Nick Zielonka entering for Lamin Jawneh in the 82nd minute. The Cosmos were unable to find a fourth, but after twice battling back from a deficit, they secured a point on the road with a 3-3 draw.
