THE STAKES

After opening the NASL Fall Season with a 2-1 home win against Ottawa Fury FC, the New York Cosmos will travel south to Miami. Meanwhile, Miami FC is coming off a 1-1 draw in their FL Clásico against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Miami finished at the bottom of the standings in their inaugural Spring Season, but the expansion side went out and made some significant signings, including Kwadwo Poku from New York City FC. Miami FC also added Michael Lahoud and Gabriel Farfán, who both spent time at the Cosmos on loan from their respective clubs in the Spring Season. While head coach Alessandro Nesta will be hoping to earn improved results, the Cosmos will be looking to build upon their victory this past Saturday.

Miami FC goalkeeper Daniel Vega leads the league with 34 saves, and Jimmy Maurer's five shutouts put him on top of the NASL in that category. Dario Cvitanich and Juan Arango each lead their respective teams with four goals scored so far this season.

The Cosmos will return home to face off against the Jacksonville Armada in a midweek match on Wednesday, July 13 at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.

MATCHUP HISTORY

The Cosmos are making their second trip of the season to Miami. On May 7 New York defeated Miami 3-0 at Ocean Bank Field, with goals coming from Juan Arango, Gabriel Farfán and Jairo Arrieta. The Cosmos will host Miami for the first time on October 22 at Shuart Stadium in their Fall Season home finale.

NOTES

Making his mark: Cosmos forward Lucky Mkosana netted his first goal of the season last Saturday in a 2-1 win against Ottawa Fury FC, earning Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match honors. The 28-year-old Zimbabwe native scored five goals and provided an assist in 27 NASL appearances last season, and has made eight league appearances this season.

Attacking firepower: Through 11 NASL games the Cosmos have fired 153 total shots, scoring 17 goals. Averaging a goal every 58 minutes, Giovanni Savarese’s squad has scored four left-footed goals, 12 right-footed goals and one header.

The long haul: Saturday begins a stretch of three matches in eight days for New York. The Cosmos play seven league matches in July, the most of any month this year.
