Restrepo Named Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match

Midfielder Walter Restrepo picked a good time to net his first goal in a Cosmos kit. His strike drew the Cosmos even in the second half against Indy Eleven on July 5, eventually earning them a 1-1 home draw.

In his first season with the Cosmos, two-time NASL Best XI winger Walter Restrepo holds the team lead in assists (3). Up until Sunday night he hadn't found a goal in green and white, though.

Restrepo came on as a second half sub against Indy Eleven and immediately changed the complexion of the game for both squads. His incessant runs down the right side of the field evetually paid off. In the 78th minute he tested Indy goalkeeper Kristian Nicht with a close-range shot that bounced off Nicht, then careened off Restrepo's head and into the goal.

That would be the final goal of the game. The Cosmos and Indy Eleven finished 1-1, in what was the two sides' fifth draw in five matches all time. The media recognized Restrepo as Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match after the game.

Members of the media will cast their votes to determine the Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match at every Cosmos home game. At each home match, the winner will receive an Emirates Airbus A380 model airplane with an engraved plaque recognizing the player’s achievement.

The Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match award will culminate in a season-ending Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award. The recipient of the Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award will receive two round trip tickets on Emirates from New York (JFK) to Dubai (DXB) to celebrate a triumphant season.
