When Brian Holt got the start in goal for the New York Cosmos over mainstay Jimmy Maurer on August 30, Raúl became the only Cosmos player to appear in every NASL match this season.
Playing for the third time in nine days, the Real Madrid legend immediately made an impact on the game. He was the glue of the Cosmos' second-minute set piece, turning a service from Ayoze into a well-measured through ball for Andrés Flores to reach and put into the back of the net.

In the 63rd minute strike partner Lucky Mkosana was taken down in the box, and Raúl stepped to the penalty spot to try to tie the match. RailHawks goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald guessed correctly but watched the Cosmos star's shot breeze by and into the bottom-left corner of the net.
