Raúl Named Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match

Raúl took his third Emirates Man of the Match award this season in a 1-0 win against Jacksonville Armada FC at Shuart Stadium on September 12.

Still the only Cosmos player to appear in all 22 NASL fixtures this season, Raúl exhibited supreme skill to get his goal against Jacksonville Saturday night.

The Spanish legend seized control of a scoreless, waterlogged affair in the 74th minute when Walter Restrepo's full-extension effort to center the ball in the box met Raúl's left foot. He shot faked with a soft first touch, weaved right, cut back left and slotted the ball with ease into the right corner of the net, leaving a trail of fallen Armada defenders in his wake.

That was the game-winning goal. The media voted Raúl Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match for the second consecutive home game and third time this season.

Members of the media will cast their votes to determine the Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match at every Cosmos home game. At each home match, the winner will receive an Emirates Airbus A380 model airplane with an engraved plaque recognizing the player’s achievement.

The Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match award will culminate in a season-ending Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award. The recipient of the Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award will receive two round trip tickets on Emirates from New York (JFK) to Dubai (DXB) to celebrate a triumphant season.
