Raúl Named Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match

The Spanish legend was recognized a team-high fourth time this season.

The Cosmos finished their 2015 NASL regular season home campaign the way they started it: with a 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Fittingly, Spanish soccer icon Raúl was at the heart of the Cosmos attack all night in the final regular season game of his career.

In the 54th minute Raúl made a run to the far post, where fellow countryman Ruben Bover picked him out with a lofted ball over the Tampa Bay back line. The finish was precise, low and hard past goalkeeper Matt Pickens to put New York up 1-0.

That goal would be the match-winner, and the media rewarded Raúl with his fourth Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match distinction this year.

Members of the media will cast their votes to determine the Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match at every Cosmos home game. At each home match, the winner will receive an Emirates Airbus A380 model airplane with an engraved plaque recognizing the player’s achievement.

The Emirates Cosmos Man of the Match award will culminate in a season-ending Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award. The recipient of the Emirates Cosmos Player of the Year award will receive two round trip tickets on Emirates from New York (JFK) to Dubai (DXB) to celebrate a triumphant season.
